Places to Visit on Snaefellsnes Peninsula

1. Natural Hot Spring Landbrotalaug

Take a bath in a 40-degree natural hot spring after a day’s drive in Snaefellsnes, Iceland. There are two hot springs in the area. The largest is near the pump and a 4-person hole across the river.

Good to know is that there are no changing rooms or toilets here. Follow Google Maps to the hot spring that leads you over a bumpy gravel road.

2. Kirkjufell on Snaefellsnes Peninsula

The Kirkjufell mountain is the icon of Snaefellsnes. This is one of the most photographed places in Iceland. The waterfall shot is perfect with Mount Kirkjufell in the background. There is a parking lot on the side of the road, so it is easy to visit. Kirkjufellsfoss is one of the most beautiful waterfalls in Iceland.

3. Picturesque churches

Two of the most picturesque churches in Iceland are located on this peninsula. The first, Ingjaldshólskirkja is a hidden gem. The second, Búdakirkja, is a black church and is known for wedding photography.

4. The cliffs at Arnarstapi (Snaefellsnes)

Arnarstapi is a cute little village with huge cliffs where waves hit. There is a small hiking trail that automatically leads you to the highlights.

5. Driving through the lava fields

As far as is known, Snaefellsnes has the only lava fields with a road between them. Make a small detour along one of the gravel roads and drive through the strange fields of lava. This was near Berserkjahraun on Google Maps.
If you have the time, visit Hellissandur. It is a small village that owns a street art section.

6. Volcanic crater Eldborg

Near the natural hot springs is the ancient volcano Eldborg, which was active thousands of years ago. The walk to the crater takes about 40 minutes.
